Per Jonsson
In Runde 7 an # 209 gedraftet spielt der mittleiweile 21-jährige immer noch in Schwedens 2. Liga. Er ist der Sohn von Coach Per-Erik Johnsson. Er zählt zwar zum Kader des Erstligisten und diesjährigen Meisters Färjestad, machte dort aber kein Spiel.

Devin Didiomete
DD wurde 2006 an Stelle 187 dedraftet. Devin wurde von den Flames nicht gesigned und unterschrieb bei den NYR und spielt dort bei den Wolfpack. Auch die Jackets waren interssiert, wollten ihm aber nur einen AHL Vertrag geben. Laut Hockey-Prospects evtl. mal nen 3rd/4th-Liner.....

Jordan Fulton
Jordan Fulton spielt immer noch in der NCAA bei der U. of Minnesota-Duluth. wurde an Stelle 179 in Runde 6 gedraftet und spielte auf der Pos. des Centers bevor er jetzt auf die Pos des Wingers gesetzt wurde.. Seit 2006 hat er sich in jeder Saison etwas gesteigert. Er vergleicht sich selber mit der Art von Todd Bertuzzi und steht mit den Sutters in Kontakt. Ein interessantes Interview mit JD:

Juuso Puustinen
In Runde 5 an # 149 gedraftet spielt er 2 Jahre in der WHL bei den Kamloops Blazers (auch Iginla startete dort früher und ist Mitbesitzer des Clubs ). Letzte Saison wechselte Juuso heim nach Finnland und legte dort eine respektable Saison bei den Blues hin (RS 33Pkt / PO´s 2 Pkt) mit denen er auch in der CHL spielte.
Hugo Carpentier
Hugo (4th Round # 118) spielt letzte Saison schon in der AHL und ECHL. Nach den Trainingscamp und anfänglichen Einsätzen in QC schickte Ryan McGill in oft runter zu den Wranglers, bei denen er dann auch in den POs eingesetzt wurde.

Aaron Marvin
Aaron (Center Rnd 3 # 89 OA) spielte in der NCAA bei den St. Cloud State Huskies. 2007/2008 wurde er zum Most Improved Player gewählt. Machte letztes Jahr in 38 spielen 27 Punkte (+/- + 8 ).

John (PF, RND3 #87) spielte letzte Saison seine Rookie-Season in der AHL und kam in QC auf 20 Punkte (5/15) in 68 Spielen.
Leland Irving
DER Nachwuchs-Goalie der Flames (Rnd1 #26 OA). Setzte sich letztes Jahr in der AHL gegen Matt Keetley und Kevin Lalande (ging dann für nen 4th zu den Jackets) durch und soll wohl mal das Erbe von Kiprusoff antreten wenn möglich.....

CJ (Round 7 #186 overall) spielt im 2ten Jahr für das Team der Ohio. Vorher nahm er am National Team Development Program (2 Season) teil. Gewann eine Silbermedaillie 2006 mit der U17 der USA. Spielt in Ohio 4th Line und machte 12Pkt. in 33 Spielen.

Mickey Renaud (* 5. Oktober 1988 in Tecumseh, Ontario; † 18. Februar 2008 in Windsor, Ontario)
Mickey Renaud war Capitain der Windsor Spitfires. Er verstarb im letzten Jahr plötzlich und unerwartet an Kardiomyopathie. Die Flames wählten ihn im 2007er Draft aus, weil schon in diesem jungen Alter grosse Führungsqualitäten bei ihm zu entdecken waren. Deshalb wurde auch die Mickey Renaud Captain's Trophy nach ihm benannt, die in der OHL dem besten Captain des Jahres verliehen wird. Aufgrund seines Todes wird das Trikot mit der von Renaud getragenen Rückennummer 18 bei den Windsor Spitfires nicht mehr vergeben.

Keith Aulie
Verteidiger Keith Aulie in der 4. Runde an Stelle 116 gedraftet wird bei Hockeyfuture an No.3 der Flames Prospects geführt. Schon beim letzten Trainingscamp macht er zusammen mit Lance Bouma auf sich aufmerksam.Er spielte in der WHL Brandon Wheat Kings seine 3 Season und markierte als Defender 33 Pts in der Regular und 9 Pts in den PO´s. Er gewann 2009 mit Team Canada (U20) die Goldmedaille. Er hat am 08. Januar einen 3 Jahres ELC unterschrieben.

John Negrin
John (Round 3 #70) ist eines der vielversprechendsten Defensivtalente der Flames Franchise. Auf Grund der Cap-Probleme waren ihm dieses Jahr dann auch schon 3 NHL Spiele vergönnt, bei denen er 1 Assist beisteuern konnte. Nächstes Jahr wird er wohl seine Chance in Abbotsford bekommen. Laut Hockeyfuture ein solider Verteidiger, dem es aber (noch) etwas an Offensive fehlt.

Mikael Backlund
Backlund ( 1st Rnd/24 OA) ist momentan das Talent auf dem die Hoffnungen bei den Flames beruhen. Schlecht in Schweden in die neue Saison gestartet wechselte er (auch auf Wunsch der Flames) in die WHL zu den Rockets wo er eine Sahne-Saison hinlegte. Er durfte zwischenzeitlich 1 NHL Game machen, da er zum richtigen Zeitpunkt gerade in Calgary verweilte als Big Bert ein Spiel "Rückenpause" brauchte. In den Playoffs wurde er zum Spieler der Woche gewählt. Er gewann 2x Silber mit der U20 Schwedens. Letztes Jahr schoss er 2 Tore im Viertelfinale gegen die Slowakei und das GWG im Halbfinale in Overtime gegen Russland. Er war MVP 20006 des TV-Puken Turniers (schwedisches U17 Turnier) und den Sven Tumba Johansson Award für den besten Forward des Turniers.

Prospect Watch: Draft 2008Alexander Deilert Der Schwede Alexander Deilert (Rnd 7/OA 198) ist ein rehctschiessender Verteidiger. Z. Zt steht er bei Djurgarden unter Vertrag und spielte letzte Saison bei 4 Teams in Schweden und Norwegen. Er wird als einer der talentiertesten Spieler der Jahrgangs 1989 gehandelt. Ebenso war er einer der besten Golfspieler seines Alters in Schweden ( würde ja passen, weil wir ja immer früh ausscheiden :-) ). Spielte bei der U20 WM mit Backlund 4 Spiele für Schweden (4 A).

Ryley GranthamRyley Grantham (Rnd 6/168 OA) spielt seit dieses Saison zusammen mit Backlund bei den Rockets. Er ist ein Goon/Enforcer (Height 6'4'' (193 cm), Weight 203 lb (92 kg)), der es aber auch verstehen soll, etwas Hockey zu spielen.

Tj BrodieTJ (Round 4 #114) spielt in der OHL bei den Saginaw Spirit seit 3 Jahren und machte als Verteidiger 50 Punkte letztes Jahr. Chef-Cout Tod Button sagt über ihn :

Nicholas LarsonLarson (Round 4 #108) spielt in der unbekannteren United States Hockey League (http://www.ushl.com/) für die Waterloo Black Hawks . Die USHL ist wichtigste Junioren-Eishockeyliga in den USA. Larson ist lauf HF ein absoluter Power Forward der zur Sache geht, dafür spreche auch seine 144 Strafminuten letzte Saison. 2009/2010 wird er in der NCAA bei den fightin Irish in Notre Dame spielen.

Lance Bouma Lance (Round 3 #78 overall) spielt seit 4 Jahren in der WHL bei den Vancouver Giants. Die neue Nähe zum AHL team der Flames in Abbotsford wird sich mit Sicherheit in der nächsten Saison auszahlen. Er wird mit Spielern vom Typ eines JD Watt verglichen, die mit viel Energie das Spiel angehen. Doch soll er ein besseres Auge für die Situation ahben und nicht so oft überdrehen wie der o.g. MAchte in 48 Spielen 25 Punkte.

Mitch WahlMitch (round 2 #48) ist ein Playmaker der seit 4 Jahren in der WHL bei den Spokane Chiefs spielt. Er kommt aus dem sonnigen Kalifornien. Sein Trainer über ihn :

Greg NemiszGreg Nemisz (1st Round/25OA) wird bei HF dirkt nach Backlund an Nr. 2 geführt. Er ist ein Stürmer der es mag seine Grösse im Slot auszuspielen. Er wird noch ein Jahr OHL spielen denn er ist satte 15 Monate jünger als der Schwede. Wälzt man die Foren so durch, liest man heraus, das es ihm evtl. etwas an Schnelligkeit fehlen könnte, dafür aber gute Hände hat für einen Spieler seiner Grösse. Anderseits sagt sein Coach:

Draftrückblick
Sutter scheint momentan zu schwedischen Spielern zu tendieren. Als Steal sehe ich den jungen finnischen Keeper, da bin ich mal gespannt auf dessen Entwicklung. Erixon könnte in 2 Jahren schon NHL spielen. Howse muss beweisen das er wirklich ein Sniper ist. Beim Rest muss man abwarten ob sie ihre Schwächen und Stärken richtig ein und umsetzen.
Bennett geht zu den Winterhawks in die WHLSpencer Bennett lässt ein Stipendium an der Uni von Alaska für ein Engagement bei den Portland Winterhawks sausen. Wenn er in die NHL will später ist es mMn nicht schlecht den Weg über ein CHL-Team zu wählen. Hat bei Backlund ja auch schon Wunder gewirkt. Wobei es schon ein starkes Stück ist, denn wenns mit dem Hockey nicht klappt, wird er sich ärgern das Stipendium nicht angenommen zu haben.

Doctors said Erixon could maybe play by the end of the camp, and the Calgary Flames' first-round pick reported feeling better today, but for precautionary reasons, he won't be playing the rest of the way here in Lake Placid.

Erixon hatte halt Schiss das er sich nicht durchsetzen kann... Mit Horak haben wir den Linemate von Ryan "Frickin" Howse. Feaster und Conroy haben alles versucht ihn umzustimmen... So haben wir jetzt 2 gute Draftpicks und ein Talent welches unsere Scouts eh schon holen wollten.
Denke ausgeglichener Deal...
