Die Ducks haben den Vertrag mit Cincinatti verlängert:

CINCINNATI MIGHTY DUCKS EXTEND AGREEMENT WITH ANAHEIM
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks announced they have agreed to terms with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on a new extension of their affiliation agreement. The extension continues a partnership that began in 1997 when Cincinnati entered the American Hockey League.
Among members of Anaheim's 2003-04 season-ending roster that have played for the Cincinnati franchise since the beginning of the affiliation are: goaltenders Jean-Sebastien Giguere (2000-01) and Martin Gerber (2002-03); defensemen Niclas Havelid (1999-00), Ruslan Salei (1997-98), Vitaly Vishnevski (1999-00) and Lance Ward (2003-04); left wings Stanislav Chistov (2003-04) and Mike Leclerc (1997-99); centers Jason Krog (2002-03), Andy McDonald (2000-02) and Samuel Pahlsson (2002-03) as well as right wing Joffrey Lupul (2003-04).

In 2003-04, Cincinnati appeared in the Calder Cup playoffs for the fourth time in franchise history. The club advanced to the second round, beating the defending Calder Cup champion Houston Aeros in the West Division qualifying round and falling to the top-seeded Milwaukee Admirals in seven games in the West Division semifinals.

Carroll: Cincinnati Ducks Give More Hope
5/21/2004 Friday

The Mighty Ducks' American Hockey League farm team in Cincinnati, Ohio gave the Big League Ducks some additional hope for the future this season.

Cincinnati advanced to the second round of the American Hockey League playoffs during the 2003-2004 season. They came up short against Milwaukee in game seven of the West Division semifinals. The Mighty Ducks had a 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 series lead in the best-of-seven series before falling in the final game.

Prior to that semifinal series, Cincinnati earned a series win over the Houston Aeros in a best-of-three West Division qualifying round series. Houston was the defending Calder Cup champions. Cincinnati appeared in the Calder Cup playoffs for the fourth time in franchise history and for the first time since the 2001-2002 season.

“Well, there is no question about a different pressure level during the playoffs,” said Bryan Murray, Anaheim General Manager. “There is a different physical level. You are meeting the same guy, night after night in head to head competition. I think that is a great experience for young players in particular to go through.”

Murray said that he would have like to have seen Cincinnati beat Milwaukee, one of the best teams in the American Hockey League this past season.

“However, I think it’s a tremendous experience and a necessary experience,” added Murray. “It’s good for some players to go through and make them understand how they have to improve their game. I am sure Glencross, Kunitz, Perrault, Popovic, people of that nature that played for Cincinnati, will benefit greatly.”

“Those players will go home this summer and work harder,” says Murray. “They understand now that there is a huge commitment to be a good pro.”

Cincinnati earned points in nine of their last twelve games during the regular season, going 4-3-5-0 in that season-ending stretch.

Hier ein Bericht zu den letzten beiden Neuverpflichtungen der Ducks,nämlich zu Curtis Glencross und Dustin Penner:

Curtis Glencross and Dustin Penner are both expected to join the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at training camp in September. Both were signed to three-year entry level contracts by the Ducks in the past three months. Glencross and Penner come to the Anaheim organization from the college ranks.

Glencross is 21 years-old and finished the 2003-2004 regular season ranked first in goals and points on the University of Alaska Anchorage’s roster. He earned 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points with 79 penalty minutes in 37 games.

“Glencross had a very good year at Alaska-Anchorage this past season,” said Bryan Murray, Mighty Ducks General Manager. “He’s a kid with potential to be a pro. We signed him and then he went to Cincinnati and became one of our good players down there.”

“He’s about 6-1, and about 173 pounds,” added Murray. “We’d like him to be about ten pounds heavier down the road through hard work. Potentially, he could be a Dallas Drake type player. He hits, he skates and very, very competitive. It looks like he has a good idea of how to play the game and a good head for it. He shoots the puck and makes plays. He could become, in my opinion, a well rounded NHL player in the near future.”

Penner, 21 years-old finished the 2003-2004 season with 11-12=23 points and 52 penalty minutes in 43 games at the University of Maine. He helped the Black Bears advance to the NCAA Championship game, scoring the game-winning goal vs. Boston College in the semifinals. On Maine’s roster, he ranked fifth in goals, tied for sixth in points and tied for seventh in assists.

Murray says that Penner is big. “That’s the biggest thing,” says Murray. “He is one of those young men that really didn’t make it in minor hockey. He told me he didn’t even make his midget team in his hometown. But they grow. He’s now 6-4 and 230 pounds. Dustin is a center iceman, left winger.”

“After kind of trying to find a way to play the game, he got a scholarship to the University of Maine,” mentioned Murray. “It looks like he has very good hands and good vision. He has a good idea of the game. Up and down the ice, his speed is okay. He needs some work on his agility and just playing the game. Probably more than anything, he has lack of experience at a higher level.”

“We think his progress will take place a lot quicker at the pro level, “added Murray. “And over a period of short time, he’ll become a good regular pro player.”

Murray says these young players don’t play as many games in college as they do in the pros, but they do get more practice time.

“Usually, when a guy comes out of college, he’s a little older,” said Murray. “Penner is twenty-one years of age versus a Ryan Getzlaf, 19 years-old. Ryan will have played more games and done the more pro-oriented approach to becoming a player when he comes out of junior hockey.”

“In college, you get good coaching,” says Murray. “I think you can make it either way. There’s a big adjustment for players from college and the junior level. It is quite different. You are playing against 30-to-35 year-olds who have been around and know how to play the game. The committed player that comes into the pros and has ability, willing to work and pay the price, whatever path you take, it’s okay.”

Glencross is a native of Red Deer, Alberta and Penner is a native of Winkler, Manitoba, Canada.
